Lawrence Lauterborn’s photography is a fusion of fine art and fashion savvy in which the images leap from the page with passion, humor, and affection. From portraits and candids to landscapes and abstracts, Lauterborn’s impeccable technique, composition, intimacy, and whimsy define his style.

Not only is Lauterborn a master technician, but he genuinely likes the people for whom he works. “I’m capturing great moments in people’s lives,” he says. “They will cherish them for the rest of their lives. It gives me the greatest joy. It’s all about spontaneity. I strive to be creative for every client at every moment.”

Lauterborn has photographed many celebrities, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Nancy Pelosi, George Lucas, Alice Walker, Alex Haley, and Neil Armstrong. Lauterborn has also had the honor of photographing His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama over a span of 12 years. About this experience Lauterborn says, “His wisdom and compassion have had a profound influence on everything in my life. Spending ten days at the Kalachakra intiation (1991), in Madison Square Garden was the most rewarding of all my professional experiences.”

If the couples in Lauterborn’s photographs seem to spring from the glossy pages of the fashion world, that’s because his career started there. Yet Lauterborn’s work has not been confined to the weddings in which he specializes. On the contrary, he has had many unexpected adventures. These include climbing the 95-foot Dewey Monument in San Francisco’s Union Square to document its refurbishing. Lauterborn's photograph's of Bill Ham's light show were used in the play, 'Love, Janis'.
