Bride: Lawrence, what brought you to wedding photography?

Lawrence: I thought that my High School newspaper's photography was not good enough, so I started to shoot sports first , then portraits, and then on to photojournalism. Took two years of fine arts photography in college. Soon I had enough of that and went to photograph . . . Europe! Back in the US, I built a fashion photo business. Models do get married! So, that's how I got into WEDDINGS. As a matter of fact, weddings have been my main business for the last 20 years.

Groom: Do you advertise?

Lawrence: I advertise in 'Here Comes the Guide' and 'By Recommendation Only'. But other than that, basically, my business was established, and continues to grow, by word of mouth - satisfied customers.

Groom: Do you shoot with film or digital cameras?

Lawrence: I use both. The convenience of digital is hard to beat and the quality is excellent. Medium format film, however, is the best quality.

Groom: Have you won any awards?

Lawrence: I won two awards at The Wedding Photographers' International Print Competition in Las Vegas! I'm also on Mamiya America Corporation's World Wide 100 V.I.P. list.

Bride: I've heard that you work with a stylist?

Lawrence: I work with Sophie Lauterborn, a great stylist. She frees me up to strive for technical perfection. Her number one priority is to make sure the bride is taken care of.

Sophie: Yes, I work with the Bride and the Groom and pay attention to all the details for them. Hair, make-up, dress, tux, boutonieres, bouquets, etc. . . Spontaneously, quickly, no fuss, good eye. My job is to make them look as beautiful, handsome, and as natural as possible for Lawrence to record.

Lawrence: Everyone lacks a little self confidence in front of the camera. Even the most photogenic. Sophie helps so much in putting the couple at ease. Good results come from a relaxed state of mind. How can I get good photographs if someone is ill at ease? Sophie's help is invaluable.

Sophie: We improvise, we go with the flow. You know, it's like theatre except it's real life, as real as it gets.

Bride: What about candids?

Lawrence: About 80% of all photos taken are candids. Good, sharp, timely, story telling candids. The key moments of the ceremony are shot unobtrusively, respecting and enhancing all creeds, traditions or lack thereof. All guests are there for a reason, we capture on film the childrens uniqueness, we honor the parents, the grandparents, we record the friendships. We love a good party!!

Groom: Formals?

Lawrence: Of course. We give great attention to testimonial, archivally sound formal portraits of the couple and their family - history in the making! But we make it fun!!

Lawrence/Sophie: We're a great team.
